Harvey Set to Dump More Rain and Rescue Efforts

Rescuers go door to door in Houston as Harvey floods widen. The storm has damaged over 87 000 homes and destroyed nearly 7 000 statewide with dozens of responders searching for survivors or victims. Explosions at a chemical plant and loss of power halt water supply in Beaumont as the system struggles to recover. The remnants push inland threatening Kentucky and surrounding areas.

Lorain volunteers collect hurricane relief items at Black River Landing

Lorain residents dump donations for Hurricane Harvey at Black River Landing with 6th Ward Councilman Angel Arroyo Jr assisting. The drive runs 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today, 4:30 to 6 p.m. during a Lorain game, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, with a Monday delivery planned.

Monitoring Hurricane Harvey From The Brownsville Area

North Ridgeville native Jon Wysochanski now in Texas kept a close watch on Harvey as it neared landfall. Rick Hallman, a 36 year old meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Brownsville, noted the storm veered from south of the area to north within two days and warned coastal conditions could bring dangerous surf and flooding. Rudolph Libbe seeks 10 year tax abatement in North Ridgeville

Rudolph Libbe Group plans $1.2 million improvements on Mills Industrial Parkway to relocate part of its operation to North Ridgeville. The Toledo based firm aims to create 50 jobs mainly in engineering and seeks a 10 year property tax abatement. If approved the project would reduce local property tax revenue to the schools for a decade while the city and schools share new income tax revenue per an agreed formula.

Disease not a threat to people amid deer deaths

Lorain County reports of dead deer tied to epi zootic hemorrhagic disease or EHD but officials say humans cannot catch it. The virus spreads deer to deer through midges near watering holes, with cases noted in cattle and deer. symptoms appear in five to ten days and many deer die within 36 hours.
