Lorain police recovered Sgt. Raymond Farley s Department issued .45 caliber pistol during an Aug 17 traffic stop. Three teens including 18 year old Michael Deskins are charged with drug offenses and possessing the stolen gun. The officer had reported the weapon stolen from his home.

Federal grant aids districts lure teachers in next year
Elyria Schools will start 2011-12 with 1.5 million in federal funds to hire and retain teachers while Lorain County schools gain more than 9.3 million. The money arrives too late for immediate staffing but will bolster next year’s budget, with restrictions on administration and a September 2012 deadline. Westway Garden Apartments to get $9 million renovation
Vesta Corp of Connecticut will start an 18 month renovation of the Westway Garden Apartments on Infirmary Road, Elyria. The 300 unit complex, largely two and three bedroom townhouses rented through Section 8, is expected to have minor resident disruptions but aims to improve the property’s reputation. Arthur Greenblatt, owner, says the project will be an improvement after the undertaking begins next year.
