Pac Man May Serve As Surrogate Companion Says Psychiatrist
In Philadelphia UPI report psychiatrist Dr Alan Summers of Northwestern Institute of Psychiatry says video games provide a safe emotional experience that can outweigh personal interactions for some people. He notes machines can pull out emotions, calling games a surrogate person and likening them to a babysitter. Summers, 44, is unit medical director at the Fort Washington Montgomery County facility and admits personal interest in programming.
