Britain to ship turbines for Soviet gas pipeline
London reports Thatcher government will not back down on plans to ship six British made turbines for the Soviet gas pipeline despite American sanctions threats. A Soviet freighter was to sail from Glasgow to Leningrad with the turbines supplied by John Brown Engineering. The Reagan administration planned action after U S firms violated a ban on pipeline tech to the Soviets and the Commerce Department blacklisted two firms. Britain insists its shipment remains unchanged.
