Gift certificate hoax hits Akron neighborhoods

Police report two white men distributed about ten thousand counterfeit gift certificates in Negro areas of Akron. The certificates, worth 20 in merchandise at Miracle Mart stores, were deemed worthless by Miracle Mart vice president Milton Learman. Authorities say certificates looked official and a few were sold for one dollar each, though no action will be taken against the children involved.

Byrnes' Condition Deteriorates at Baptist Hospital

Former Secretary of State James Byrnes, 90, worsened after a heart attack as Dr Izard Josey reported reduced responsiveness and elevated temperature.
