FBI data on candidates investigated by House sub committee

The Chronicle Telegram reports that a House sub committee on Government Operations led by Rep. Jono Monagan is compiling data about FBI and DOJ activities. Ehrlichman says the FBI information was sought for political purposes but that the agency must be non political and answer to the will of the people.

Peace prospects dim as Nixon faces Vietnam talks deadline

Washington sources said it was unlikely the United States and North Vietnam would sign a Vietnam peace accord before the November 7 election. Kissinger and White House advisers cited no timetable for a final Paris round, while officials stressed continued contact with Hanoi and Saigon and possible new talks this week. In Chicago, a commuter train crash killed 44 and injured more than 320 as an older car collided with a modern bi level car near 27th Street station, prompting mass hospital aid and parades being canceled.

Razor blades and pins found in Halloween candy in Lorain County

Two separate incidents reported to the Lorain County Sheriff's Department involved apples and candy bars with injector razor blades and pins. Victims were in Elyria Township and Carlisle Township. no suspects named. Deputies recovered no evidence and urged parents to inspect treats during Halloween hours.
