City lays out pay cut fallout with looming layoffs

Dispatchers rejected the proposed pay cut and four other bargaining units had not yet responded by Thursday afternoon. If revenue falls short and unions refuse concessions, seven firefighters, 21 non safety staff, three dispatchers, three corrections officers and five police officers face layoffs. A grant intended for five new police officers could instead fund those positions to save them.

Campaign finance details show the Elyrians First Committee raising 14,370 with 7,670 from a VFW fundraiser. Kevin Brubaker says he did not solicit donations from Clemans Nelson or K E McCartney, though they have city ties. Brubaker notes he has little campaign funds left after prior bids and is not actively raising more money.
