Grand jury weighs indictment in DeChant murder case

Lorain County grand jury spent two hours hearing evidence in the double aggravated murder case of Gregory DeChant, 21, of Avon, charged in Avon Lake Municipal Court with the stabbings of his parents Leonard and Arlene DeChant. Indictment status was not disclosed.

U S Steel settles suit for 1 5 million

A final settlement of 1.5 million was announced in a 21 million wrongful death suit filed by three Lorain families against U S Steel Corp and divisions American Bridge Co Bailey Control Co following a December 11 1981 accident at Lorain Cuyahoga Works. Three men Luzada Ball and Howard died and dozens were ill as investigators cited a malfunctioning valve and gas fumes in a boiler house.
