Frank Bird and Wife Caught After Jail Break
Frank Bird and his wife Sylvia were captured by federal agents at the home of Bird’s mother-in-law in Mayfield Heights. The couple escaped from the county jail on Sept. 22 with brothers Charles and James Widmer, who were held for bank robberies. National Tube Co Schedule Keeps Fourth Week Operations
National Tube Company plant at Lorain will run next week at roughly current levels. One less butt mill and one less lapp mill will be offset by two extra skeip mills. Four blast furnaces and 13 open hearth furnaces stay in operation. The Bessemer converter runs double turn while the rail mill is idle. Five days of operation, starting Mondays, are planned for skeip mills 1 and 5, butt mill 6, lapp mill 2, and seamless mills 1, 5 and 3, though the timetable remains tentative.
