Professor claims radiation find in Ashtabula River sediments
In Ashtabula Ohio a chemistry professor now at Northern Arizona University reports enriched and depleted uranium traces in river sediments up to 60 times background. He argues the contamination could affect the Lake Erie tributary cleanup already 90 percent complete and references RMI Titanium and Millennium Chemicals as related sources. EPA testing found slightly elevated radium in Fields Brook Creek but poses no immediate health threat.

Trial date set for teen arson suspect in $500000 blaze
A 14-year-old Sheffield Lake boy facing juvenile counts of failing to report a crime and obstructing official business had a juvenile trial scheduled for December 22 at 10 am. Two other youths, ages 12 and 14, from Sheffield, admitted involvement in the Abbe Road Lumber fire of September 5 and face arson and vandalism charges with sentencing set for November 13. Police said the trio talked about the fire at school and used a lighter to ignite paper and cardboard near the store, causing the storage shed to burn while the main sales building stayed open.
