The United States urged Soviet Foreign Ministry to free four captives including two American generals after a small plane landed on Soviet soil near Leninakan. The detained group includes Maj Gen Edward Scherrer Brig Gen Claude McQuarrie Maj Gen James Russell and Turkish Col Civat Danli aboard the Beechcraft.
A tentative agreement reached this morning between General Motors and Local 780 United Auto Workers at the Elyria Fisher Body Plant, pending ratification by 1,860 members. Terms were not revealed and no vote date set. a ratified pact would end weeks of local bargaining and allow workers to return once a national settlement is reached. Workers have been idled since the September 15 strike began.
