Time changes as clocks fall back in Elyria region

Elyria and area residents are warned to set clocks back tonight before bed to avoid time problems. Travel schedules including bus, plane and train have been altered to compensate for the change. Residents will gain an extra hour tomorrow morning.

The Ohio American Independent party opened its Cincinnati convention promoting the presidential ticket of Wallace Mess. Wallace is Edward Wallace of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Mess is Robert Mess, an aide to Alabama Gov. George Wallace, a candidate for vice president. A stray line notes a man’s fantasy about a hot time with an old flame and money to barn.

Viet Cong pledge to abide by Paris pact amid Saigon alert

Viet Cong says it will respect the Paris peace provisions and refuse liquidation of rivals in South Vietnam. In Saigon, Thieu orders general armed forces alert as Communist forces begin land grab moves ahead of the cease fire. Kissinger talks in Paris expected. officials say a new session could occur soon. The Liberation Radio urged negotiations with Saigon to settle internal South Vietnamese issues.

FBI halts 22 year policy of collecting data on lawmakers

FBI acting director L. Patrick Gray III said the bureau will stop a 22 year practice of gathering background information on congressmen and candidates. The disclosure followed Elyria Chronicle Telegram reporting that prompted a national furor. Gray called the program nonessential and subject to misinterpretation as an investigation. Kangaroo corralling ends chase in Lorain west end

A kangaroo from Jett's Petting Zoo visited Shield's Nursing Home at 3905 Oberlin Ave. It escaped during return to Midway Mall and hopped several blocks before being corraled by police, the dog catcher, and residents on Highland Park Boulevard near Central Park. The incident followed prior reports of loose horses in the city.

Miami’s Policeman Of 1968 Keeps Job Suspended Over Mustache

Miami officer Daniel Zell, named outstanding policeman for 1968, is suspended from the force for a mustache one quarter inch too long and hair beyond grooming codes. Zell, who had won officer of the month in 1967 and 1968 as a recruit with a crew cut, claims superiors are out of touch. A lieutenant says Zell looks so bad he is ashamed to be seen with him in public.

A Vickers Viscount en route Lyon to Clermont Ferrand crashed in a forest. 59 killed, 9 survivors including a five year old boy were carried to ambulances after a two hour delay caused by a rolling boulder. Mrs Neeson Chosen As Candidate For Late Husbands Office

Mrs. Charles V. Neeson was unanimously picked by the Lorain County Democratic Central Committee to run for Lorain County clerk of courts, the post held by her late husband until his death Thursday. At 37, she cited familiarity with the office and support from loyal staff, and noted her name will appear on the ballot in place of her husband. The committee plans to name a successor to County Auditor Mitock and to fill Neeson’s remaining term, ending December 31.
