Council Unit Reaffirms Traffic Light Decision

The safety committee of the city council reaffirmed a prior call to install traffic lights at East Broad Street Park Avenue and Park Place when funds allow. A police survey recommending against installation was rejected after review showing the intersection does not meet light criteria. Council members noted left turns onto East Broad Street are difficult at Park Avenue, sometimes requiring long waits. The panel also moved to strike county jail wording from DUI penalties, allowing Elyria Municipal Court discretion. James Recupero of Elyria, head of UMW Local 06, was chosen in July with Cascade Park jet officers ban in question, asserting the new officers were elected to restore Park Board autonomy.
