Rainy weather may stall NASA Ares I-X test flight

In Cape Canaveral NASA prepares the Ares I-X rocket for a two minute test flight on the back to the moon program. Forecasters put the launch at 60 percent to be delayed by rain and clouds. The booster will splash down in the Atlantic for recovery and the rocket contains about 700 sensors costing 445 million dollars. NASA aims to orbit with astronauts in 2015, though experts predict 2017. White House weighs options on the shuttle replacement.

Tightening Rules on Elective Labor Inductions

Health officials report rising restrictions on elective inductions as hospitals prepare for new Joint Commission quality measures next spring. ACOG guidelines discourage deliveries before 39 weeks, and Intermountain’s program cut early inductions from 28 percent to about 3 percent, reducing NICU admissions and costs. Hospital groups note elective inductions occur for nonmedical reasons, but stricter criteria aim to improve perinatal outcomes nationwide.
