The Chronicle Telegram reports a Press Women Workshop in Elyria at 1 p.m.
Eaton Township residents will vote on whether the township should establish its own ambulance and emergency medical service. The measure asks voters to approve or reject creating a local EMS system. Local officials emphasize potential changes to response times and funding.
Eaton Township trustees place a new two-mill levy on the November ballot to fund emergency ambulance service for five years. The funds would cover operating costs, fire department maintenance, rescue squad and vehicle equipment replacement, plus new equipment, housing, and personnel. The levy would raise about $38,500, costing property owners about 20 cents per $100 of valuation. Present service is supplied by area funeral homes.
Lorain County Chapter of the American Red Cross seeks volunteers for its telephone reassurance and transportation programs. Volunteers may work from home answering daily calls to elderly and homebound persons, with a safety plan for nonresponses, and drive Red Cross vehicles to transport residents.
