Lorain voters face seven council races with six battlegrounds and six incumbents joined by new candidates. Unopposed are George Metelsky in Ward 1 and incumbents Kenneth Shawver Ward 5 and Fred J. Ritenaver Ward 8.
Lorain County Board of Mental Health seeks a 1 mill five year levy on Nov 8 to raise 2.5 million dollars to fund services and inflation relief, addressing a 400000 dollar shortfall and rising demand amid unemployment. The board contracts eight agencies including Nord Center and Center for Children and Youth Services.
Navy Seaman Recruit Joseph Lenne, son of Mr and Mrs Michael Lenne of Wellington, has completed recruit training at Great Lakes Tl. Pvt Thomas Kelly Jr, son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Kelly of Amherst, has completed basic training at Fort McClellan Alabama. The private is a 1981 graduate of Marion Steele High School. Army Pvt Dewayne Stringer, son of Mr and Mrs Dennis Stringer of Case Ave, has completed basic training at Fort Sill Oklahoma.
Democratic Solicitor George Ferguson seeks a third term in the November General Election and is unopposed. He lives at 359 Miami Ave and first won the post in 1975. A Notre Dame and Ohio State Law graduate, he is a St Mary Church and Knights of Columbus member and has led the March of Dimes campaign. He has served as Rural Lorain County Water Authority counsel for 73 years and served as a first lieutenant in Japan.

North Ridgeville residents face a 9.8 mill emergency five year operating levy dominating the ballot while two incumbent candidates Board President Charles Norris and Fred Dorow are assured of victory.
