In West Plains Missouri Porter Wagoner received two Honorary Wagonmaster Scrolls marking Porter Wagoner Day. The awards went to Bob Ferguson Nashville record producer and Sid Vaughn longtime local grocer who once employed Wagoner and sponsored a 15 minute radio program featuring him.
Mrs. Jeffery J. Neumann, 20, died after refusing a blood transfusion for medical reasons tied to her Jehovah's Witness beliefs. A twin engine plane crashed north of Orrville, exploding and disintegrating on impact. Four aboard died: Dr. Edward Rambasek of Strongsville, 54, chief of general surgery at Fairview General, and his wife. Dr. Robert Roehm of Bay Village, 48, an orthopedic surgeon, and his wife. The craft had stopped in Knoxville for fuel while returning from Tampa to the Cleveland area.
