Paris October 25. Abert Sarrout accepted President Lebrun's invitation to attempt forming a new cabinet. He is seen as the only man likely to assemble a cabinet able to win a slim budget majority.
Boston October 25 New York and New Jersey officers left police headquarters for an unannounced destination to investigate a clue in the Lindbergh baby kidnapping case. The information was believed to concern dating Gorch or items found in a raid on his apartment.
In Manchukuo on October 25 Dr. Nils Neilsen, an American kidnapped on March 12, was rescued by Japanese troops and moved to army headquarters at Hsingen. The report notes Neilsen’s capture and rescue in quick succession, detailing the security operation and location.
The Elyria Central Labor Union reorganized this week to lead a vigorous labor drive. Robert Stephen named organizer for the district by the re spun federation. Washington October 25 The United States government launches open market gold purchases at about 58.36 an ounce under Roosevelts price plan. Jesse Jones RFC chairman, with Acheson and Morgenthau, announces the new price and debentures to pay for mined gold. The move aims to control dollar value and domestic prices, signaling a shift from the gold standard toward a managed currency.
Clarence Lawson fourteen of 404 Oberlin avenue is recommended for a Hero Medal by the Ralston Purina Hero Commission at St. Louis for saving two women from drowning in the Black River on July 31. He died last month from gasoline fumes in a local filling station accident. The grandmother filed the application on his behalf, with The Chronicle-Telegram providing the supporting report. The Oberlin gas rate appeal raises a constitutional question applicable to many state cases.
Piqua officials and citizens celebrate the completion of the municipal light and power plant. The project cost under 700000, below the initial estimates, with a pageant of progress and an NRA parade opening. Carl J. Thompson of Chicago will give the dedicatory address as Piqua High School bands and local groups perform.
The Graf Zeppelin landed at Akron airport at 5 04 a m after a windy night aloft over the city. Dr Hugo Eckener reported using the calm at dawn to moor the airship while gesturing no change to plans to fly to Chicago with Mayor C Nelson Sparks. CHILLICOTHE O Oct 25 Dr Hugo Eckener and his amazing airship unwittingly added a fitting touch to the Ross County Historical Society pageant. The pageant depicted 137 seats of progress in transport and was part of a four day program bearing on early history of this section. The silvery Graf moved over the pageant adding the last modern touch to the picture of transportation history.
