Elyria Quota Club marks 30th year celebration
The Quota Club of Elyria marked its 30th anniversary with a Hilltop House dinner attended by about 30 members and guests including past Women of Achievement Mayor Marguerite Bowman and others. Evelyn Clish, former Quota Sixth District governor, attended as the club recalled its charter from Quota International on Oct. 2, 1948 and highlighted service to the deaf and hard of hearing, notably the Gallaudet College scholarship fund.

World War I ace and Elyria resident Bowker’s long career
World War I ace Bowker, who belly landed after his plane’s undercarriage was shot off by a German fighter, later became Malone mayor and built a trading life across Canada and the U.S. He moved to Cleveland and Elyria, ran Bowker Electric Service, and remained a licensed electrician. A life member of the American Legion and Masonic bodies, he enjoyed travel and aviation as hobbies while his nieces in Australia beckon.
