Young boy found safe after long woods search near Avon Lake
In Vermilion Township a five hour search by about 200 people and two airplanes found two and a half year old John Horvath III in heavy brush southeast of his home. He asked for his mommy as rescue worker Wayne Davis carried him to safety. His parents and grandmother waited anxiously as divers scouted ponds and neighbors joined the effort. The child, unharmed, was returned to his relieved mother. Separately a federal health official warned birth defect and cancer risks linked to polyvinyl chloride plants in Avon Lake Ashtabula and Painesville, urging tighter controls and licensing.

Pollster cites Americans as most armed nation in world
Louis Harris told a Senate hearing that more Americans own guns than smoke, drink, or own appliances. Based on a 1500-person survey, 68 percent say easy gun access fuels violence, 83 percent of nonowners favor universal registration, and gun owners also back registration though less strongly. Harris notes rising support for stricter gun controls despite belief that presidential assassination cannot be prevented.
