County to fix three rail crossings with state funding

Elyria officials win up to 10 000 for each of three southern county rail crossings under a pilot program with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Rail Development Commission. Repairs will raise grade and asphalt the approaches, boosting safety and ride quality. Work planned for spring or summer next year at Quarry Road Conrail, Pitts Road Conrail, and another near Murray Ridge Road. a fourth crossing was not funded.

New London to honor 21 years with no pedestrian fatalities

The AAA-Ohio Motorist Association will award New London at a luncheon in Independence. Mitchell J. Brown, director of the Ohio Department of Public Safety, will be the keynote speaker. Lorain unions and the Lorain Democratic Party plan a rally at United Steelworkers Local 1104 with Lee Fisher and Alexis Herman speaking. Free food and parking available.
