Private clinics lure dropouts with tuition-free model
In Tacoma and Everett Washington a private school system named Educational Clinics Inc runs the first legal dropout clinic program. Teachers—many former dropouts—counsel and tutor small classes while students learn at their own pace, often smoking and wearing jeans. The program costs about 1060 dollars per student and returns about three quarters of dropouts to public schools or jobs, with a reported gain of almost two grade levels in two to three months.
