Pleas Of Three Distillers To Be Rejected
Washington President Truman's Food Committee rejected pleas of three distillers for hardship exemptions from the 60 day whiskey making holiday. The Distillery, Rectifiers and Wine Workers Union sought to delay shutdown proposing a partial cutback over a longer period to increase grain yield and efficiency. The committee turned down the AFL union demand, asking for a clearer cease plan and a new plan to be presented today. Officials noted the shutdown would proceed at midnight Saturday unless a better voluntary plan emerges.
