Campaign plans set for Chest Budget expansion 1936

The Community Service Council executive committee approved a 1936 Chest budget of 65 782 an increase of 15 582 over 1935 to meet higher needs of the Salvation Army and Associated Charities as relief loads return to the community. New line adds 409 for Tuberculosis Association work with children and lists participating groups. Campaign opening dinner is November 18 with luncheons November 22 25 26 and 26 industrial division chair to be named.

Red Cross To Begin Drive On Friday

The annual Red Cross Roll Call for Elyria and the south end of Lorain County starts Friday with a workers banquet at St. Pauls Evangelical dining room. The drive aims to raise $2500 and continues through Saturday November 2. Robert T. Moore leads the district, with Friday’s dinner uniting Elyria and county workers outside Lorain city. County Finances and One Mill Levy Discussed in Meeting

County officials met Monday afternoon to launch support for a proposed one mill operating levy to fund welfare institutions and county offices. Auditor Kelser warned the levy could reach only 1.68 mills under the school foundation formula, risking cuts if voter support falls short. Campaign launches to raise funds for Elyria relief

Robert T. Moore leads a campaign to raise 2500 for Elyria and Lorain county relief starting Friday night and ending Saturday December 2. Moore, a Muskingum College alumnus and former Van Wert high coach, became Elyria physical director for eight years then joined Mutual Life Insurance. WPA Projects Expand Relief to 400 Workers in Lorain County

The WPA approved 19 projects nationwide, costing about 135 553 dollars, creating work for around 400 relief workers. Elyria Council Advances Revised Building Code Ordinance

Elyria council last night gave the voluminous revised building code its first reading after weeks in committee. Council Clerk Dan B. Symons read the document as changes were adopted, with Councilman W G Smith noting potential 19 percent savings in some cases and a 35 009 dwelling could be built at 294 to 15 less than under the old code. The session also accepted a committee report authorizing a dead end at Garford school and referred a storm sewer connection request to a committee. A $17 60 claim by Maple City Lee Co. for damage from a city truck collision was noted.
