Penn State Heart Recipient Hails Surgery Recovery
Anthony Mandia, the first Penn State artificial heart recipient, said he is doing fine after a five hour implant at Hershey Medical Center. He was weaned from respirator and breathing tube, talked normally, and praised his doctors as relatives recalled their initial doubts turning to acceptance. The device will stay in place until a donor heart is found, with doctors noting no bleeding or major complications so far.
