LCCC building plan waits as House votes money bill

Ohio House considered changes to a 524 million capital construction appropriation for 1978 79. The Senate approved the measure 31 to 1 after a 45 minute debate centered on a study of a proposed Cincinnati sports arena. The bill allocates 213 million for college construction 21 million for mental health and retardation facilities 68 million for parks and recreation with 2.5 million for a Lorain County Community College fine arts center. Trustees monitor progress as contracts depend on state funds.

Hong Kong at North Pole? Geography class shock

Boston University geography professor James Chan tested 62 students on capitals of 24 countries and locating them on continents. Only 5 students scored more than half, many had 10 or fewer correct, with Hong Kong shown at the North Pole and South Korea placed in central China. Chan blamed the widespread geographic confusion among freshmen and upperclassmen.

Betterway to open Ohio first group home for boys under 14

Betterway Inc plans Elyria group home for boys under 14, first in state. Tom Peters says a $25,000 George Gund Foundation grant will fund a down payment on a downtown building for 11 residents, with placement via Ohio Youth Commission and juvenile courts. The home will be overseen by a social worker and staff of six. The project aims to open late this year or early 1978, joining four existing Betterway facilities for youths and women.

Paroled Con Man Eddie Goodwin In Auto Tag Theft Case

Eddie R. Goodwin, 42, who pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in the 1974 Antony J. Marsho auto tag theft, will be released on parole November 15 after serving 132 months of a 1 to 5 year sentence. He faces one year of probation under Adult Parole Authority supervision.

Prince Charles Visits Cleveland Amid Cheers and Welsh Kiss

Prince Charles arrived at Burke Lakefront Airport to cheers from about 1,000 people and was greeted by Gov. Rhodes and Mayor Perk. He kissed a Willoughby woman and spoke with Thelma Burgess from Mentor, while tours included a steel mill inspection, a Cleveland Orchestra concert, a $7.5 million Square renovation kickoff, and visits to Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Clinic. His stay used Eaton House in Bratenahl as official residence.
