Issue 1 boosts recreation lands on Ohio ballot
Ohio voters on November 4 will decide Issue 1, a constitutional amendment to allow future tax breaks for recreational lands. Proponents say it could curb urban sprawl by taxing golf courses and similar venues at current use rather than market value. Critics warn it weakens the state and local tax base, affecting schools and governments. The measure follows a 1973 farm land tax break approved by voters and backed by legislators after months of debate.
