Food Committee Opens Series of Meetings
Washington. President Truman’s food committee opened a series of meetings to decide if poultryless Thursday can be dropped without harming the food conservation drive. A final decision is not expected for two or three days as they weigh whether chickenless and eggless days save grain and if poultry feed firms will cut wheat and corn use. Poultrymen urge dropping poultryless days, arguing they reduce demand for chicken and force farmers to feed more birds.

Scientists May Change Climate with Smoke Screen
SCHENECTADY N Y Gener al Electric scientists announce experiments with a smoke screen that may alter the climate. Dr Irving Langmuir disclosed a report on ground generated machines that release man made clouds to produce snow and moisture for irrigation. The smoke, dispersed by special particles, could modify weather in northern states. The plan includes using cloud piercing dust to seed clouds and possibly store water on mountainsides. Experiments also cover cloud clearing to defend against air attacks. The notice ends with continued coverage on page 7.
