New Thoroughbred Track Planned Between Toledo and Cleveland
Perkins Township may host a new 25 to 80 million dollar thoroughbred track midway between Toledo and Cleveland. Edward Solomon of Track Enterprises said the outlook is good and financing is progressing with half the loan approved. A meeting will finalize investor contracts as construction shifts to next spring due to financing. Plans call for a 7,500 seat grandstand and stabling for 800 to 1,000 horses on 260 acres on Hayes Avenue south of Sandusky after zoning approval.

Blue Cross weighs appeal after state caps rate hike
Blue Cross of Northeast Ohio may appeal a state decision limiting non-group rate increases to an average of 71.8 percent, down from the requested 102 percent. The decision affects about 172000 non group subscribers including 98500 seniors across Lorain, Cuyahoga and nine other counties. Blue Cross says it needs the higher rise to cover projected losses, while state officials cite cost containment measures. The company has 10 days to decide on an appeal after the ruling.
