McCormick Middle School closes with grand farewell
More than 1,000 people packed McCormick Middle School for a final walk through the nearly 150 year old building on South Main Street. The structure will be demolished this spring for a park and the last students will move to a new North Main Street building after Thanksgiving break. Former students dating to the 1940s visited, recalling classrooms, lunches, and dances in the auditorium. Delbert Mohrman, class of 1946, recalled early schooling and serving in the Korean War, noting the school’s former prominence and the need for students to have space to make new memories.
