Record low readings as Ohio towns endure early cold snap

Ohio residents shivered as Lorain County enjoyed a heat wave with a 36 degree low in North Ridgeville. His wife Gertrude and daughter Theresa died. his son Andre Thornton Jr. and he were hospitalized with injuries. One-armed bandit pays Nevada record jackpot to Californian

In Reno a Harold's Club slot machine paid out a record $236,756 to Lorrie Hartzog of Sacramento after she dropped about $40 into the machine. Hartzog, a retired pastry shop owner, and her husband John, a retired civil service worker, have visited Reno for more than 20 years, Harold's Club spokeswoman Susan Harris said.

New baby boom seen sparks population growth warning

Washington based Zero Population Growth warned the United States faces a new population expansion akin to the postwar boom. With current fertility and immigration rates, the group said the population could rise by 107 million in 50 years, and if young women have two children, annual births may hit four million by 1980, nearing the 1957 peak of 4.3 million.
