Would Pay Cash For Hornsby

CHICAGO Oct 17 William Wrigley owner of the Chicago Cubs is willing to pay as much as $200000 cash for Rogers Hornsby of Boston but does not want too many of his present Cubs players included in any deal. Wrigley announced last night that if money were the only question Hornsby would be a Cub within two or three weeks. He said an offer had been made to Emil Fuchs owner of the Boston Braves but Fuchs wanted several Cub players in addition to cash. He would supply cash but it would be up to Manager Joe McCarthy as to which players could be traded. It became evident the Hornsby deal had hit a snag at least for the moment when Wrigley spoke of the players and said it would be foolish to wreck the present Cub team merely to get one great hitter.
