Avon man shot in bed linked to roommate in Warrant
A search warrant filed in Lorain County Court of Common Pleas ties Avon resident Ryan Raider to the fatal shooting of Brandon Smith as he slept with his girlfriend Emily Markel nearby. Markel reported they had been drinking and that Raider handled a firearm that fired. Raider, initially claiming a drop caused the shot, later said he caught the gun as it went off. He appeared intoxicated but did not consent to a residence search. Smith died at MetroHealth Medical Center after 3:16 a.m. call. Raider was arrested and charged with reckless driving or inappropriate.
