Personal locator beacons to aid hikers and climbers
NOAA announces handheld personal locator beacons using satellite rescue networks. Beacons cost about 300 dollars and will be available July 1. They send SOS signals to satellites routed to NOAA in Suitland Maryland, aiding rescues where cell service fails.
