Celeste’s Divorce Reduces Millionaire Status After Split

Former Ohio Governor Richard Celeste once worth millions after leaving office in 1991 saw his assets shrink by divorce and taxes. Court records show an investment account of 1.1 million as of March 15, with much of the funds paid in a divorce settlement and taxes. Celeste, who earned 85,000 during his governorship, indicated he might own a quarter of a million now. The final divorce decree was issued August 3, and Celeste and Jacqueline Lundquist have a wedding planned for October 28 in Cleveland.

Authorities plan to present evidence to an Ottawa County grand jury about a fatal Sandusky Bay boating crash on Aug. 26 that killed four and injured eleven aboard a 29 foot boat. The operator Joseph Chaykowsky 51 of Willoughby Hills survived. Aggravated vehicular homicide is the most serious potential charge. An ODNR report cited excessive nighttime speed and a blood alcohol level just below the limit as factors. Tower lights atop the high tension line were not functioning and had not been lit for years. Coast Guard had not checked since 1988.
