Elyria defeated Lorain 15-0 15-10 to clinch the Erie Shore Conference crown, marking the Pioneers second straight league title. Coach Carol Russo praised team as players contributed across the lineup, with standout performances from Kingman, Dartis, Williams and Bader.
Sandusky Blue Streaks beat Southview 15-6 15-13 to close the Erie Shore Conference season with a 12-2 league mark, one game behind Elyria which clinched the title with a win over Lorain. Stephanie Berry went 13 for 13 and Brands Race 10 for 10 with three aces as Sandusky prep for Magnificat.
In Windmill Lakes DI golf Canfield leads with 311 as Bay Village struggle to qualify. Bob Miller shoots two sub 40 halves for 76 but Bay misses state as Canfield, Marlington, St Thomas Aquinas and Ashtabula post strong scores. Rockets card 335 team total led by Miller.
Hinckley Hills hosts the Division I district where Erik Herberth fires a 2 over par 74 with five birdies to take second, two strokes behind medalist Mike Shank of Hoover. Bill Whitney of St. Edward also shot 74, while Wellington and Olmsted Falls fields finish with high scores and playoff drama for two state spots.
In the Division I district tournament at Tri City Park, Daniela Mesquita of King's advances to the Saturday semifinals with a 6-4 6-4 win over Jocelyn Karatsia, while Tracy Howitt and Caroline Stevens of Westlake win in doubles to reach the semifinals. Other area players exited in first round action.
Amherst high school soccer star Guy Camera scored six goals breaking the single game and season records, lifting the Comets to an 11 1 victory over Benedictine. He reached 25 goals on the year with one game left. Open Door Lake Ridge also posted a 4 0 win as Krause scored twice and Schuster earned his second shutout. Elyria First Baptist conceded a second half goal to Christian Community for a 1 1 draw.
Elyria Parks and Recreation invites boys and girls in grades one through three to a six week basketball skills clinic at Hamilton Recreation Center on Saturdays starting November 12. Fee is 15 dollars and must be paid at the Parks office on Gull Road at Burns Park by November 9. Call 365-7104 for details.
A men s three on three league kicks off Monday nights at East Park Recreation Center starting Dec 5 with divisions for men 30 and over and upper and lower brackets. Applications are at Burns Park Park Office on Gulf Road. Team fee is 100 due by Nov 25. YMCA leagues also start with a Tuesday recreation league Oct 18 at 7 p.m. and a Thursday competitive league beginning Oct 20.
Hartville Lake Ridge Academy players Shakir Presswala Howard Jung and Columbia’s Scott Schulke failed to reach the 81 cut at Seven Hills Country Club in the Division I district. Schulke led the group with 85, Presswala 86, Jung 87.
Lake Ridge drops a 1-0 decision to Hudson in the regular season finale. Erin Johnson made 15 saves for the Lady Lakers, who host Cleveland Heights in the sectional tournament Tuesday.
A 30 and over league begins at 6 15 p m on Nov 6 with a 265 fee covering up to 12 members. Individual fees are 25 for members and 35 for non members. Sign up by Oct 4.
