Elyria Council OKs Turnpike Route Engineering Study

At a special meeting Elyria City Council authorized emergency legislation to hire Wilbur Watson and Associates for engineering review of the Ohio Turnpike route through Elyria. Coast Guard Searched Lake Erie for Industrialist Missing From Sloop

The Coast Guard cutter Raw from Cleveland hunted Lake Erie about 12 miles north of Huron for O. L. Daily, head of Caio M Machine Products, who vanished after falling from a 42 foot auxiliary sloop while sailing from Put-in-Bay to Cleveland with three companions. Crew members said they could not handle the boat in heavy seas and wind, tossed two life preservers, and tried to reach Daily before losing him in the turbulent water. The other men were George Sanger, Clyde Austin, and another Cleveland resident. Repeated calls to Lorain coast guardsmen reported a distress sighting off Delaware Avenue, six city blocks east of the Lorain station, with sails dragged in the water. Continued on Page 2.
