Aksum, holy city of Ethiopia, surrendered to the Italian army today after a week of encirclement. Priests and 13 monastery heads submitted to Gen Pietro Mara tigna of the Gaviana division, ending Ethiopian resistance in the city. Ras Haile Selassie Kougsa and other chiefs also capitulated, clearing a path for a southward advance.

Firemen find basement and part of first floor smoky with a boiling preserves kettle starting fire.
