New E-Check emissions program rolls out in Ohio counties

The Ohio EPA unveiled the E-Check tailpipe test set to begin in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties and 12 other counties in northeast and southwest Ohio. Required every other year, the test costs 19.50 and must be completed before license plate renewal. Exemptions apply to newer vehicles unless ownership changes. The program aims to reduce hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides and could trigger Clean Air Act restrictions if pollution remains high.
