The YMCA hosts a 6 15 pm membership dinner at the Association building featuring octogenarian members, music, snappy talks, and a reception. Campaign workers invite twelve guests, and final membership drive awards will be announced with Burke presiding and Baird Thomas presenting honors.
One person was slightly injured and several autos damaged in weekend crashes. Ted Smith, West 7th street, suffered facial and arm cuts when his car was struck by Mike Macher’s vehicle at West avenue and 7th street as Smith tried to cross. L K Wagner of Cleveland accelerated into Della Muller of Grafton at Broad and Cheapside. An auto driven by J Jackson collided with Anton Kalich of Grafton at Broad and East last night, causing further damage.
An agreement between the Oberlin Kindergarten Association and the Elyria Board of Education provides a teacher for the Franklin school kindergarten. The Oberlin group could not supply a teacher due to salary issues, now resolved, and if a suitable instructor is found she will be sent to Franklin. otherwise the board will open with a local teacher.
Police will explain provisions of the city’s new traffic ordinance enacted last week. Enforcement starts next Monday with warning and education. Parking limits apply on specific streets 8 am to 8 pm daily and until 10 pm Saturday.
Four men were detained after a bottle fell from a Studebaker onto a pavement near Lake Avenue and Huron Street. Patrolman Walton collected liquor from the scene and, in police court, Justice George found evidence insufficient for liquor possession. Three men were fined for disorderly conduct. one was dismissed.
Twelve men suspected of mob involvement in the attack on Baptist missionaries Mr. and Mrs. Paul R. Gleason in Rangoon have been arrested, according to American Consul Charles J. Pilar. The district is quiet and Americans in suburbs receive police protection. the couple is expected to recover.
Dayton police report two safes at the Fair department store breached Sunday by burglars who seized 3500 dollars in cash. The robbers battered the safes open and fled before authorities arrived.
Lorain County's twelve districts seek extra revenue beyond regular taxes to buy equipment and cover operating costs. One district may abandon its school, sending students to nearby districts. In Tiffin, Henry Moes 38 and Isador Lafontaine 33 of New Reigel were killed when a wheel collapsed their car sending it into a ditch on the Fostoria road near their home. They were found alive at 2 am and died at Fos toria hospital. In Cleveland Fort March 29 died from injuries after a collision on Franklin Boulevard and West 50th Street, raising the county auto fatality list to 25. another man in the same crash was near death from a skull fracture.
