Overpopulation Must Be Checked Says Research Leader
Washington based Lester Brown of the Worldwatch Institute warns in his book Building a Sustainable Society that runaway population growth and wasteful consumption threaten future shortages of food and vital commodities. He cites declines in per capita production of wood, fish, beef, mutton, and wool since 1960 as population surpassed 3 billion and then 4 billion, with petroleum partly offsetting but only temporarily postponing the crisis.
