Jury Debating Fate Of Meluch
In Lorain a second degree murder trial for 23 year old Joseph Meluch remains without a verdict after deliberating for about ninety minutes. Foreman Robert Wheeler said the jurors likely would not reach an early decision as rumors floated of an eight to four split for manslaughter. Prosecutor Howard R. Buker portrayed Meluch as cool and calculating, detailing how he killed his bride Dorothy in their home, changed clothes, and claimed Dorothy was asleep before leaving. Defense attorney C F Adams argued the sole question was whether Meluch used excessive self defense, noting the jury could reach second degree murder or other verdicts. Judge A Cook instructed jurors that four possible verdicts are possible in the case.
