Elyria Man’s Automatic Pilot May Ease Flying Hazards
Elyria inventor O W Green developed a Green Automatic Pilot to control planes via a pendulum and vane system. Tests with pilot Wesley Smith showed the craft returning to level flight quickly, with faster stability than inherent methods, though windups and rudder responsiveness needed work. Green plans further tests at McCook Field or with Guggenheim support, and aims for Navy and Fairchild interest to advance the device.
