Elyria Safety Service Director Chris Eichenlaub dies in crash
Elyria official Chris Eichenlaub 58 died after a Sunday morning crash on Park Avenue. Police say a medical event may have caused his 2007 Ford Explorer to leave the road, strike two trees, and stop in a front yard near 1207 Park Ave. He died at EMH Medical Center. Lorain County Coroner confirmed the death.

Fire destroys dog as propane grill blamed for Amherst blaze
A propane grill on a second floor unit at the Carriage House apartments 165/167 Lincoln St sparked a fire that police say is not injuring residents. The Joneses escaped with their granddaughter but their dog died. Firefighters contained the blaze within five minutes after arriving at 6:08 p.m. Sunday and evacuated the 16-unit complex. Fire damage totals were not available.
