Computerized artificial legs aim to mimic natural movement
MIT researchers in Cambridge describe battery powered prototype legs that move with built in motors and microprocessors. They aim to customize leg behavior to individuals to improve stair climbing and natural gait while exploring costs potentially above thirty thousand dollars. The design centers on a knee brake and knee control to coordinate heel rise, leg extension, and standing stability.
