Elyria Board Approves Teacher Jobs and Leave

The Elyria Board of Education approved leave for Elyria High welding teacher Raymond C. Richard who was called to active Navy duty. The board also hired two substitute welding teachers Ernest Wilcox and Albert Slauter, plus additional Deaf School teacher Jean Cotter. First Doctor Draft Request Issued for Army Service

The Defense Department asked Selective Service for a draft of 922 doctors 500 dentists and 100 veterinarians for Army service in November December and January. Navy and Air Force indicated no similar draft. Aims set: 300 doctors by Nov 15 300 doctors 300 dentists 50 veterinarians by Dec 15 and 322 doctors 200 dentists 30 veterinarians by Jan 15.

Elyria Board of Education approved acquiring Sophia Tite property at 510 West Avenue for 12600 dollars. The site, bordered by Fifth Street, West Avenue, and the Sixth Street alley, includes a house and double garage earning 150 dollars monthly. Doctors Dentists and Veterinarians to Register

Plans were made to register medical doctors dentists and veterinarians in Elyria during the first Special Selective Service Registration to be held Monday at the Local Draft Board offices Turner Block third floor from 8 am to 5 pm. The rule targets those who studied in Army Specialized Training or similar Navy programs and those with little or no World War II service. Registration applies to those with less than 90 days active duty or 90 days to 21 months if they have had such training.
