Elyria man found competent to stand trial in Nebraska stabbing case
James D. Thompson Jr., 22, was ruled competent to stand trial on 11 charges including first degree murder and attempted robbery for the June stabbing at an Interstate 80 rest stop in Hall County. Victims Gary and Mary Weaver, ages 72 and 71, suffered fatal and life threatening injuries respectively. Thompson fled in a car but was tracked by the Nebraska State Patrol after crashing into the Platte River.
