General Industries cleanup extends as byproducts found
Beneath the burned out General Industries site in Elyria petroleum byproducts were found, prolonging the city’s cleanup efforts. A yearlong study completed in August detected subsurface contamination, triggering more screening by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Mayor Holly Brinda said the contaminant source is unknown but may stem from decades of manufacturing.

1.8 Mile North Coast Inland Trail Extension Opens
A 1.8 mile gravel walking and biking link on the North Coast Inland Trail connects Kipton to the Wakeman area. Lorain County Metro Parks plans pave the route later as part of the 12 foot wide asphalt trail. Director Jim Ziemnik notes the extension grew from clearing unused track beds and will become a formal part of the Inland Trail network.
