Asbestos fear shuts Elyria Franklin Elementary School
Elyria Franklin Elementary School closed after tests showed asbestos levels up to 40 times acceptable. Superintendent Lester Schultz said precautionary action followed a warning from asbestos consultant Steve Sebesta. Samples from September 30 indicated airborne asbestos up to 2,766 particles per square millimeter, far above concern thresholds. Sebesta noted only the possibility of a problem, but Schultz pledged to close the school to protect staff and students. The district hired Pioneer Abatement to clean debris linked to removal work last week. See ASBESTOS, A-6.

Background of Hill and Thomas Echoes Similar Struggles
Anita Fay Hill, rising law professor and former aide to Judge Clarence Thomas, is accused of sexual harassment by her former boss, a claim that echoes Hill’s own background of rural poverty, Yale Law School, and a life shaped by privacy and strong convictions. Friends attest to her honesty, while colleagues note she was not political, yet ready to testify when needed. The profile traces Hill’s youth on a family farm outside Okmulgee, Oklahoma, as the youngest of 13, and her persistent role as a reader and student leader who later joined education department circles and Washington legal work.
