Lorain County coroner Dr. Stephen Evans identified 22 month old Annie Flynn as the girl who died in a pool at a West Road home day care. Officials say the death was an apparent drowning and an autopsy report is pending. Emergency responders were summoned shortly before 10 30 a.m. Wednesday.
An Elyria Township woman was struck and killed by a westbound Norfolk Southern train about 9 p.m. on a dark stretch near the West Ridge Road crossing. Deputies said she sat on the tracks in dark clothing facing east and made no attempt to move. identification withheld pending family notification. Traffic was halted while investigators examined the scene and others were directed to turn around.
Police identified two brothers Andre Sanford and Allen Sanford who fled after a crash at Route 57 and Schadden Road that killed Jeffrey A. Johnson of Lorain. Johnson, 47, died at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center from injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car around 5 a.m. Thursday. The Sanford brothers, 24 and 21, later surrendered to Elyria Police and were charged with failure to stop after an accident and obstructing, authorities said.
